| Topic: cracking of soldier coursing | | Project description:
1. 9 story load bearing building
2. exterior walls consists of composite 8" cmu + 4" facing brick. brick and block connected by dur-o-wall at 16" o.c. Not sure if gap between block and brick is grouted or mortared. Facing brick per astm c216 type fbs, grade sw. Utility size 4" x 4" x 12".
3. soldier coursing aligns with each floor level (8" precast planks). Soldier coursing is offset 1/2". Size 4" x 4" x 8" high. Brick has 5 or 6 cores per brick.
4. 8" cmu supports 8" precast planks at each floor w/ 3" bearing.
Problem:
Soldier course has horizontal crack aligning w/ core holes at lower levels.
Question:
How does one determine the capacity of soldier coursing oriented as noted above. I.e. Prove the the block cannot support loads. (by bern) |
