| Topic: Exterior fireplace/chimney requirements? | | I have a client that wants to have a wood burning fireplace (not masonry) added to his living room. He does not want to intrude in the existing space, and he doesn't want to have a full brick chimney constructed. My thought is to open up the space in the wall, pour a slab right outside the wall to put the firebox on, and run a metal chimney straight up the side of the exterior brick wall and through the eave. Are their any requirements on what we need to do for the firebox? Do we need to enclose it in brick? Anything else that we need to keep in mind? Thanks. (by Dan H) |
